Mr. Olisa Agbakoba

Mr.
Olisa Agbakoba is the Senior Partner of Olisa Agbakoba and Associates; the Senior Counsel of the Human Rights Law Service, HURILAWS and the Founding President of Civil Liberties Organization. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and a Life Member of the Body of Benchers. He is currently serving as the National President of the Nigerian Bar Association and as a Member of the Governing Board of the Institute of Continuing Legal education of the NBA.
Mr. Agbakoba is a graduate of University of Nigeria where he received the Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Master of Laws Degree from the University of London in 1977 and 1980 respectively. He also has a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Leadership, Social, and Community Development and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), the Chartered Institute of Mediators and the Institute of Credit Administration.
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Shipping & Freight Management; Fellow of the Association of British Council Fellows; President/Founder, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping; Director of the Child Welfare League Nigeria; Convener of the 1st all Nigeria Conference on Human Rights and Democracy: 1996; Director of the Institute of Humanitarian and Human Rights Law Nigeria; Convener, United Action for Democracy Nigeria (1998 – 2001); Chair, Judiciary Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association (till date); Patron of The Law Aid Initiative (TLAI); Fellow of the Institute of Directors Nigeria; Chairman of the National Investment Law Review Committee; Life Member, Nigerian Society of International Law to mention a few. He holds membership of various organizations both nationally and across the borders.
He has delivered several Lectures, Conferences and Programmes in over ten countries spread across the globe on various contemporary issues. Till date, he has over eighty (80) publications and various biographical listings, all contributing immensely to the spread of knowledge and the quality life and rights all over the world.
To this end, he has been given various awards from different bodies across the globe for his Excellence, Leadership Skills, Commitment to the Protection of Human Rights, his engagement in Civil Liberties, as the ‘International Man of the Year’, as a ‘Role Model’, as the ‘Legal Practitioner of the Year, for his drive in the Rule of Law Initiative and the Reform of the Justice Sector in Nigeria amongst others.
